Fantasy worlds lack much explanation of how they came to be and how they work. Other than legends. If you explain it in a way I'll enjoy, it’s probably not fantasy. But the fantasy worlds represented in this genre aren't remotely unique . They're more generic than fantasy worlds have ever been. Even Greyhawk had illithids and beholders. These are just a blob of amorphously associated fairy tale tropes viewed through the lens of another culture ( A culture I like, but this is not my favorite export ).
