casein notes

Okay, I do think I like gouache better, because its easier for me to blend with gouache. I'm not sure if its a problem with casein, or me, but I'm pretty sure its the paint. This stuff is less chalky and more tacky, so its not as easy to blend , at least not the way I do it. Its still really fucking awesome though - a better experience than I had with oil or acrylic. This is kind of a " Desert island " paint. What I mean by that is that what this paint probably does best is its versatility. I'm pretty sure you can do almost any paint technique with it. You could dilute it for a transparent wash in imitation of watercolor. You can use it like gouache. You can put it on straight, undiluted, like acrylic and its thick enough that you can do an impasto with it. Not only that, but you can probably paint it on a wide variety of surfaces. I've seen a picture of a roman headstone painted in casein, the headstone was made of a wooden post. And that was from roman times. So, its also archival.
