Prison Blog

In which Possum recounts his experiences as an offender in the system.

Possum Bones is autistic. He has identified as a dirty kid in the past, and he’s attended multiple rainbow gatherings. He has several years left to serve in the Washington Correctional system.

He has been making art since he could sit up. He communicates better in writing than speech. If you are interested in the experience of an autistic person doing prison time, check out his Prison Blog. If you are a fan of comic art, underground/outsider music, Lovecraft, Clarke Ashton Smith, Murakami, Cixui Liu, etc.

Water brush Opinion

The waterbrush is fantastic. Its a thousand times better than I can imagine any marker being. You only need one size of round, maybe two if you dont use an ink pen for lines. Markers, you'd need at least 12. The water brush, I'm using my old cheap set of Sargent brand watercolor tubes. That was a really good deal, it was only like 6 $ or so for 12 12 ml tubes. Most of the pigments aren't bullshit colors, except for the non toxic ones. I still use some of them a fair bit in my watercolors. Anyhow, I cut a blister pack of pills in half to make a cake palette ( Not 'cause I'm cheap ... which I am... but because I'm only allowed one palette from blick by DOC ) to use these with. You're not really supposed to, but you can fairly watercolor on the paper in my sketchbook, which is 65lb. You have to be careful and don't expect the same results as cotton paper. The point is, with this water brush and palette, I can fairly always add color to my drawings without having to worry about it being perfect or spend as much fuss as I might for a painting. For the most part, my drawings are concepts and practice, and the lack of color detracts from my ability to conceptualize.
Anyway. The water brush is friggin' awesome. I'm using the sakura one but I might buy a niji eventually . All you need to paint with it is a roll of toilet paper and a cake palette. You don't worry about munging the cake colors up because they're cheap colors. There's no tamping the brush and worrying about the amount of water because its consistently wet and the nylon bristles arent very absorbent . Once you get used to it, its sweet.
