thoughts on Ito's Remina

I've read Remina before, and part of why I like it is because its not his best work. It has the feel of a weird foreign sci-fi film. One of the things I really like best about Ito is that despite being one of the real Capos of horror manga, the biggest name after Umezu really, he's not like this immaculate creator. Neither is Umezu really, their work is very playful. Ito, he's not afraid to do things in his stories that don't make sense , and he's always eager to have these moments of absolute ridiculousness ( like evil dead ) in his horror stories. The mouths of his characters, when they're freaking out, are hilarious. He draws these realistic looking characters with dramatic Umezu style eyes and then gives them a giant gaping mouth that’s just way larger than it should be, and its hilarious. He can draw a character to look terrifying or terrified but he so often chooses to draw a character in this state of shock so pitiful that its comedic. Its always a moment reminiscent of something like Planet Terror. He's very sadistic , but in a really hilarious, rather than truly sick way.
